I saw this book in the library and it really compelled me to read it. I love the type of story that follows something like the ring to different stories. I could not stop reading this book!! I read it in 3 days what normally takes me 2 weeks!!! I told all my friends about it and they read it too!! This book really opened my eyes to what M.E. I thought that the begining of this book was terrific!! It kept me on the edge of my seat turning page after page, uplifted by the thick romance unfolding. Then all of a sudden it just died and a whole chain of events happened way too quickly. In the second part, the author brought in the ring and continued with the tradition of the Storm family, which was kinda cool. In the last part, I didn't understand why she made it as though the narrator was writing a letter for an English class. It just totally turned me off. I think if she did something with Powell and Mildred in the begining half and had them runaway together that would have made it so much better!!! and more romantic.
The book, I Stay Near You by M.E. Kerr is three books in one with a single connection; a ring inscribed with the words "I Stay Near You." The book is divided into generations. This is a complicated book with a complicated chain of events. A different family member tells each story at a different point of view about a love tangle. As the book continues through the generations, the connection of the ring becomes associated with the complications of main characters in search of their true love.
This is a very unusual book in the way it is written. The different perspectives of the three individual stories result in some confusion concerning the connections. Despite the confusion however, this book is original in the way that there are hardly any other books like it, which makes it extremely hard to put down. It is very suspenseful in the way that the reader wants to know what the connections are between the three completely different stories of romance. The relationship between the ring and the three stories is not evident until all three stories are read, which makes this book a quick read.
Overall, this book was very well written because of its uniqueness. Each character had similar situations with problems that can be related to real love tangles. This book was very engaging because it is full of suspense regarding the ring and the links of the generations. It is a book very worth reading because it is a quick read that is easily related to life. A variety of feelings are left with the reader at the book's end which creates an unforgettable book.
I Stay Near You is about three generations of two families. I liked it because it was a romantic story, and the characters seemed to be real. There wasn't a lot of action, but the story was good enough to keep me hooked. I like the idea of using three generations of the two families, but I was a little confused in the last part of the book. I was not so sure who the character was. After I found out that it was the grandson of the first character, I understood the story better.
This story kept my interest because the characters had so many problems. I liked the way the author would introduce new characters as the story went on. Also, the book was like reading history because it started in the 1930s and ended up in the 1990s. The book also had a part about the 1960s where it talked about the the Beatles. I heard about this singer group because they were famous. This historical information was interesting to learn because I knew very little about this time period. I can say that this book was very fun to read.
I read this book for a class assignment (I'm in the 9th grade). I didn't really look at the cover and see what it was about. I probably haven't read a book in about a year (besides the ones in school). Books don't interest me at all, so if I get a book, I usually read it in like 2 weeks, but I read this book in just one day. It might not have been all that suspenseful, but it made me want to turn the page and fight out what happened to all the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book, but I must warn you, once you read it, you won't put it down. The plot is first a little confusing, but keep reading, and it untangles into a love story.
